What an awesome way to welcome in 2020! Thea & Spencer were surrounded by family and friends for their New Years Eve wedding at The Depot, in downtown Billings, MT.

I had a ton of fun photographing this special day! Everything turned out absolutely beautiful and everywhere you looked you saw smiles and laughter. It’s smiles and laughter that I like to photograph the most!

Thea and Spencer have such a relaxed ease around each other, I could clearly feel the connection and comfort they have as they start their life together. Everyone in attendance seemed to reflect this feeling.

Take a moment to congratulate the newlyweds and share your favorite moments from the wedding below!

Every wedding gathering is different. I always encourage my couples to make the wedding their own by personalizing and putting their take on the day. Because of this, there are one or two unique things from each wedding that stand out.

For this wedding, the first thing that stands out when looking back is that this was the latest wedding ceremony I’ve ever photographed. Or, at least the first ceremony that I’ve photographed after dark. The feeling was unlike any other I’ve ever attended and I loved it! The “Passenger Room” feels completely different after the sun goes down and it made for a beautiful setting in which to get married.

The other thing I noticed was the mood of the room and how everyone was interacting. To me it was quite clear that this truly was a joyous event for everyone in attendance. Guests were having a great time, the elegantly decorated reception hall overflowed with such an abundance of love and laughter!

As a wedding photojournalist, the atmosphere created something special for me. My favorite thing to capture is honest and real interactions between people. Those laughs you can hear and the hugs you can still feel when looking at photos. It’s the moments when you can see the feeling and connection between people that show who they are and what they mean to each other. Those are the moments that will take you back and allow you to relive your wedding day.

It is challenging and rewarding to capture those moments. In order to do so, you have to be aware of your surroundings to anticipate when and where they will happen so you can be ready capture the moment.

Those candid moments are why I photograph weddings and at this wedding those moments were abundant!
