This specific wedding occurred in a magical hidden wonderland on the south side of town, DanWalt Gardens. I have always loved this venue because it adds a certain beauty to every picture you won't find in other parts of town. Continually blooming flower arrangements, and vibrant greenery highlight the magic of any wedding day.
There are so many reasons why I advocate for this, but the two primary ones are:
We get to know each other better and build trust before the wedding day. This lowers some barriers allowing me to capture more authentic portraits sooner in the day.
The other is that we get to learn and practice the communication system I use for posing and prompting. We get to practice and experiment with what types of prompts work best for the two of you. Allowing us to move straight into creating amazing images and skipping the learning/practicing part.
Knowing how your photographer works before the wedding is only going to help you get even more out of your final gallery.
As a wedding photojournalist, it's my job to capture not just the events of the day, but also the emotions and personalities of my clients and their families. Kids are so honest and upfront with their emotions, they let it all show when in front of the camera and that makes it easy to capture beautiful, candid photos that reflect who they are, and I believe that's why it is also so much fun!
Their spontaneity often leads to some great candid moments adding layers of emotional depth to your gallery.
The lighting conditions during the winter can be challenging with the shorter days, but it also presents an opportunity to produce beautiful, moody, and dreamy images. When you encounter photographers who are accustomed to photographing in environments that are gusty, cloudy, snowy and change rapidly, you can rest assured that they know how to take that weather and actually use it to enhance the images. Emotions are harder to show in photos that suddenly spring out, not in spite of the weather, but because of it.
